The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) scheme has seen significant traction in Jammu and Kashmir, registering nearly 100,000 unorganised workers. This was disclosed during a review meeting led by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo.
Labour Commissioner Charandeep Singh highlighted the scheme's role in providing old-age social security to those in the unorganised sector. Srinagar leads with 10,312 registered workers, followed by Poonch and Pulwama. A special enrolment drive launched in 2026 has resulted in a 30% registration increase.
The meeting emphasized intensifying outreach efforts across the region, with 637 registration camps conducted in collaboration with local bodies. The chief secretary urged for regular progress reports to ensure comprehensive coverage and emphasized the scheme's importance for vulnerable workers.
