Iran's New Strait of Hormuz Traffic Control Mechanism
Iran plans to implement a new traffic management mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative, set to be unveiled soon, will permit only commercial vessels and collaborating parties to benefit, with associated fees for specialized services. The system aims to streamline maritime traffic under Iranian oversight.
Iran is set to launch a new mechanism designed to regulate traffic through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz. The plan was announced by Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian parliament's national security committee, on Saturday.
The mechanism will involve a designated route and aims to streamline operations within the vital maritime passage. This initiative is expected to be rolled out shortly, with commercial vessels and entities cooperating with Iran standing to benefit from the arrangement.
Azizi highlighted that the new system would include the collection of fees for specific services provided under the mechanism, representing a potential new revenue stream for Iran while reinforcing its control over this crucial shipping lane.
