Empowering India's Industry: A Call for Local Manufacturing and Export Growth
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of local manufacturing to reduce import dependence. Addressing traders, he urged them to identify import-replacing goods and boost exports. The government targets $1 trillion in exports, leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and promoting domestic products to achieve economic growth.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on the industry to bolster India's manufacturing sector by identifying goods for local production, thereby reducing reliance on imports. Speaking to domestic traders on Monday, Goyal underscored the importance of spotting import trends as potential manufacturing opportunities within the country.
Despite global economic uncertainties, India's exports are on the rise, increasing by approximately 5% to USD 863.11 billion in the 2025-26 period. The ambitious target for the current year stands at USD 1 trillion. Goyal advised the industry to improve quality, competitiveness, and enhance their operations to meet this target.
To further support export growth, Goyal mentioned that recently finalized Free Trade Agreements will provide preferential access to Indian goods in international markets. Additionally, he announced the upcoming Bhartiya Vyapar Mahotsav, urging traders to exclusively showcase domestically made products, fostering the spirit of Swadeshi and strengthening the country's economic independence.
