A video streaming live showed Israeli military vessels approaching and boarding one of the flotilla's boats. The flotilla's organizers initially declared on social media that their vessels were being intercepted in broad daylight. The flotilla, comprising 54 vessels and participants from 39 countries, demands safe passage for what it describes as a legal, non-violent humanitarian mission.
Turkey condemned the intervention, calling it a 'new act of piracy'. The Turkish foreign ministry is working with international counterparts to ensure the safe return of its nationals. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan criticized the action, labeling the flotilla participants as 'voyagers of hope' and urged the international community to respond swiftly.
