In a significant move to bolster international workforce mobility, India and Japan convened a joint seminar in Tokyo on Monday, focusing on long-term partnerships in skilled worker exchange and human resource development. The event, backed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, India, and ASEAN ONE Co. Ltd., hosted key policymakers and industry leaders from both nations.
Vandana Gurnani, Secretary at the Ministry of Labour & Employment, emphasized India's burgeoning role as a trusted international labor partner during her keynote address. She asserted that India's demographic advantage, its robust skilling ecosystem, and ongoing institutional reforms have set the stage for India to become a primary source of skilled workers for economies such as Japan's.
The seminar discussed strategic areas such as Japanese language proficiency, sector-specific skills, and ethical recruitment practices. The Assam government's Foreign Language Initiative for Global Talent (FLIGHT) was also highlighted, aiming to prepare Indian candidates for global employment, particularly in Japan. Notably, discussions touched upon a vision to facilitate a personnel exchange program to mobilize 50,000 individuals between the two countries over the next decade.
