Airtel Surpasses Jio in Subscriber Growth for April
In April, Bharti Airtel led subscriber growth in India, overtaking Reliance Jio. The telecom sector saw a rise in both mobile and broadband users, reaching an all-time high of 133.75 crore total subscribers.

In April, Bharti Airtel experienced notable growth in its subscriber base, outpacing rival Reliance Jio in both the wireless and wireline segments. Airtel added 34.82 lakh new customers, with 31.39 lakh in the mobile segment and 3.43 lakh in wireline, according to the latest report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai).
The overall telecom subscriber base in India surged by 69.5 lakh, reaching an unprecedented 133.75 crore by the end of the month. The wireless subscriber sector also expanded, growing from 128.23 crore in March to 128.89 crore in April. Meanwhile, competitors Vodafone Idea and BSNL saw smaller increases, while MTNL and Tata Teleservices experienced a decline in subscribers.
The rise in broadband connections was spearheaded by Reliance Jio, leading with 52.69 crore subscribers, followed by Airtel which boasts 37.3 crore subscribers. The sector continues to exhibit robust growth despite some setbacks for smaller players like MTNL.
