The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has introduced the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) and unveiled several digital initiatives to enhance port operations and governance. This announcement was part of their 37th Foundation Day celebrations in Mumbai. The LPPI aims to uplift the operational capacity and competitiveness of Indian ports.

Shipping official Sarbananda Sonowal shared insights on the LPPI, emphasizing its role in bolstering efficiency and maintaining global benchmarks. This initiative is expected to place India at the forefront of maritime nations. The digital reforms include modules for grievance redressal, ship registration, medical services, and a unified ship recycling credit note system, aiming to streamline processes for stakeholders.

Moreover, the ship recycling portal will provide financial incentives for ship owners at compliant Indian yards, tying into the national maritime development plans set for 2025.
