A cargo vessel was targeted by two explosions in the Gulf, about 40 nautical miles southeast of Iraq's Umm Qasr, officials reported.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) highlighted that the first explosion on the vessel's starboard side was caused by a projectile, leading to significant damage. The subsequent explosion has been identified as a result of a drone attack, according to initial assessments provided by Iraqi officials to Reuters.
The resulting fire on the ship was eventually contained. Currently, no group has taken responsibility for the attack, and the vessel remains unidentified.
