In the latest development amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has issued an appeal to private English-medium schools in the state to commence their summer vacation from May 9.
Her plea follows the Indian military's 'Operation Sindoor' missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, a retaliatory measure after the deadly massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on April 22.
Speaking to reporters, Banerjee emphasized that her request wasn't an official directive but a strong recommendation to school managements. The decision mirrors the state's earlier move to advance vacations for public schools due to severe weather conditions.
