In a sweeping crackdown against textbook piracy, over 4.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks have been seized across India since 2024, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary revealed this figure in a written reply, highlighting that unscrupulous elements driven by commercial motives are behind the illegal circulation.
To combat this issue, the NCERT has undertaken 29 raids on premises linked to the sale and production of pirated textbooks, confiscating stock and equipment worth over Rs 20 crore. Measures like a 20% price reduction, enhanced quality of materials, and trials of an anti-piracy technology developed by IIT Kanpur have been initiated.
