The Allahabad High Court has issued a temporary halt to the Uttar Pradesh government's school pairing initiative in Sitapur, citing discrepancies in its application. The directive will remain in effect until August 21, providing a reprieve as the court examines appeals from concerned parties.
Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Jaspreet Singh clarified that the interim order does not challenge the policy's overall aims, which include resource pooling and improved infrastructure. Still, the order was prompted by procedural complaints, specifically that key documents were omitted in earlier court considerations.
The litigants argue the policy contravenes the Right to Education Act and the Constitution by undermining neighborhood schooling norms. As the state and appellants prepare further submissions, the order signifies a legal pause on a policy decried by opposition parties but aligned with the National Education Policy.
