Assam's Leap into Educational Leadership with New IIM

The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked a 'historic occasion' as the Lok Sabha approved a bill setting up a new Indian Institute of Management in the state. Sarma emphasized that this move is pivotal for Assam's emergence as an educational hub in the northeast, as it already hosts an IIT and AIIMS.

The Chief Minister expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their roles in propelling this educational endeavor forward. He highlighted the strategic positioning of Assam, now poised to become a major education hub of Eastern India.

The newly sanctioned IIM-Guwahati will be the 22nd in the nation and the second in the northeast, set to be mentored by IIM-Ahmedabad. Efforts are underway to start classes this year at a temporary campus, with a permanent site planned near Guwahati's Palasbari in Kamrup district. The first IIM in the northeast was established in Shillong in 2007.
