NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak Scandal: A Call for Systemic Reform

In the wake of the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak scandal, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to amend the NMC Act, 2019, to exempt the examination for the 2026-2027 academic year. Stalin emphasized the grave consequences of the leak, which exposed the frailties of a centralised examination system.

The scandal broke when a 'guess paper' with over 400 questions, including substantial matches in Biology and Chemistry, circulated on WhatsApp and Telegram. Originating in Nashik, Maharashtra, it swiftly spread across multiple states, affecting nearly 22.8 lakh students and sparking a nationwide outcry. Authorities uncovered a multi-state network, leading to a CBI investigation and numerous arrests.

Stalin's letter to the Prime Minister outlined persistent issues within the NEET framework, pointing to a history of irregularities since its inception. He argued that the exam's structure unfairly disadvantages students from rural and marginalized backgrounds, turning medical admissions into an arena driven by economic privilege rather than merit.
