In a significant tribute, Russia honored the memory of freedom fighter and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik by unveiling a memorial plaque at its embassy in New Delhi. The ceremony was an integral part of the celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II.
Naveen Patnaik, chief of the Biju Janata Dal and Biju Patnaik's younger son, attended the heartfelt commemorative event at the Russian Embassy, acknowledging the legendary role his late father played during the critical Stalingrad Operation in WWII. This operation was pivotal in turning the tide against Nazi Germany.
The event, held before the main function on May 9, was attended by Russian Ambassador Danis Alipov, who highlighted Biju Patnaik's bravery and contributions in a letter. Biju Patnaik, who served two terms as Odisha's chief minister, is remembered fondly as a heroic pilot and significant figure in WWII's anti-Hitler coalition.
