Actor Mads Mikkelsen has joined the voice cast for the animated feature 'North,' which draws inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's beloved fairy tale 'The Snow Queen.' This was announced as the film heads to the Cannes Film Festival, where it will be previewed on May 13 during the Marche du Film segment.

The storyline revolves around a character named Gerda, who embarks on a daring quest to find her missing friend, Kai. Throughout her journey, she encounters a diverse group of allies, including people, birds, beasts, and a benevolent witch. Unbeknownst to her, the sinister Snow Queen, along with her apprentice Louie, poses a looming threat from afar.

Mikkelsen lends his vocal talents to Severin, Kai's father, a role that is described as embodying 'wisdom, sorrow, and the timeless magic of storytelling.' Severin is a carpenter who crafts a splendid sled for his son, later devastated by their mysterious disappearance. Enriching the film's emotional landscape, Norwegian composer Rolf Lovland has contributed an original song, 'Finding You,' sung by Maria Arredondo, which poignantly captures the film's central themes of longing and connection.
