The Delhi government is set to host a global Ayurveda summit, aiming to boost start-ups focused on traditional Indian medicine, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed on Thursday.

Speaking at the All India Ayurvedic Congress, Gupta noted Ayurveda's global popularity and emphasized the need for increased access to Ayurvedic medicines and knowledge.

Gupta also highlighted the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in promoting Ayurveda by establishing the Ayush ministry and proposed a Delhi institute paralleling AIIMS to advance Ayurvedic studies.

The summit is intended to provide a platform for experts to discuss innovations and initiatives within Ayurveda, enhancing its traditional practices.

Additionally, the Delhi government plans to sponsor Ayurveda-based start-ups and encourages digitizing ancient texts to preserve valuable knowledge.

Currently operating 197 Ayush Centers in Delhi, the government includes 55 Ayurveda, 25 Unani, and 117 homoeopathy dispensaries, alongside three medical colleges and four hospitals dedicated to Ayurvedic medicine.

In the 2025-26 budget, the government allocated Rs 275 crore towards alternative medicinal systems, with Rs 100 crore focused specifically on Ayush. Gupta praised Modi's ongoing efforts to make Ayurveda more accessible at a global level.

Gupta underlined the necessity of making alternative medicines like Ayurveda and homoeopathy available to those disillusioned with allopathic treatments, promising holistic solutions for various ailments.
