Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on a pivotal visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh, inspecting the National Large Solar Telescope (NLST) project site situated near Pangong Lake. During her visit, she paid homage to martyrs at the Rezang La War Memorial, affirming the site's historical significance.

The NLST project envisions a two-meter class optical and near-infrared telescope at a 4,200-meter altitude, set to probe the intricacies of the solar atmosphere. The Union minister, briefed by Indian Institute of Astrophysics Director Professor Annapurni Subramaniam, emphasized the scientific potential of this endeavor.

Sitharaman also instituted the foundation for a Mini Planetarium in the Hanle region. This initiative aligns with the Special Development Package to enhance scientific education and promotes local employment. At Bhabha Atomic Research Centre's facility, she urged public-engaging astrophysics programs.
