The commemoration spans from June 25, 2023, to the same date in 2026, underscoring the importance of reflecting on the darkest days in India's democratic timeline. June 25 will be officially observed as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' from 2024, as notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Scheduled activities, led by state governors and chief ministers, will include thematic marches and exhibitions, engaging educational institutions and individuals affected by the Emergency. This remembrance serves to renew commitments to democratic ideals as the nation looks back on a time marked by the curtailment of civil liberties and press censorship.
