Sandeep Deshpande, a leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, openly criticized the state government for not including Marathi banners at the ongoing National Conference of Estimates Committees at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai.
Deshpande, who joined a signature campaign in Dadar against the compulsory inclusion of Hindi in schools, expressed disappointment, stating, "Why are there no banners in Marathi at the conference?" He emphasized the importance of respecting Marathi, especially in events held within Maharashtra.
In response, Maharashtra Legislative Council deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe called the criticism unnecessary, noting Marathi's classical language status. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde explained the Lok Sabha Secretariat's role in organizing the event led to Hindi and English banners.
