Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao remains embroiled in a legal dispute stemming from a 2017 promotional poster for the film 'Behen Hogi Teri.' At the latest court hearing in Jalandhar, Rao was notably absent, as confirmed by his lawyer, Darshan Singh Dayal.
The controversy began when a poster depicting a character representing Shivaji stirred public outrage, leading to legal action against Rao, actress Shruti Hassan, and others involved in the film's production. The legal charges included inciting religious sentiments and conspiracy, resulting in non-bailable warrants against Rao. He had surrendered to the court previously and received conditional bail.
Advocate Dayal argued the artistic portrayal was not intended to offend, emphasizing the film's certification by the Central Board of Film Certification and Rao's freedom of expression under Article 19(1)(a). Meanwhile, Shruti Hassan was acquitted, and director Ajay K Pannalal appeared in court to address his involvement in the case.
