Actor Prakash Raj was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday regarding a money laundering case tied to illegal online betting and gambling on several platforms. The actor, known for his roles in South Indian cinema, appeared at the agency's zonal office after being summoned.
Raj, questioned for four hours, stated he had promoted these apps in 2016 without accepting payment, as he distanced himself from the practice on moral grounds. "I provided all necessary information to officials, affirming I did not receive any money for the endorsements," Raj told the press.
The ED has summoned other actors, including Rana Daggubati and Vijay Deverakonda, as part of their investigation into celebrities and influencers allegedly endorsing betting apps engaged in illicit activities. Officials claim these apps generated illegal funds worth crores, with some public figures unaware of their operations' true nature.
