The Research Institute of World's Ancient Traditions, Cultures, and Heritage (RIWATCH), through its Centre for Mother Languages, has wrapped up a significant field study focusing on the preservation of oral traditions among three indigenous communities in Arunachal Pradesh.

According to an official statement, the communities involved include the Sajolang (Miji) in Bichom district, as well as the Aka (Hrusso) and Sherdukpen in West Kameng district of the northeastern state.

The research, conducted from July 14 to 31, aimed to safeguard endangered folk narratives, oral histories, and linguistic data with the collaboration of community elders and native speakers.

This initiative forms part of the Centre's larger mission to promote and revitalize indigenous languages within the state.

A significant outcome will be the creation of illustrated folktale books to encourage reading habits and facilitate the intergenerational transmission of local stories.

The project will further aid ongoing community-based educational and preservation efforts.

RCML extended appreciation to various community councils and organizations for their critical support and collaboration across the study.
