Spike Lee's Colin Kaepernick Docuseries Hits Dead End

Spike Lee's anticipated docuseries about Colin Kaepernick, produced for ESPN Films, will not see the light of day, according to statements from the filmmaker and ESPN. Creative differences among ESPN, Lee, and Kaepernick have been cited as the reason for this decision, announced via Reuters on Saturday.

The docuseries, which had commenced production in 2022, aimed to deliver a comprehensive, first-person narrative of Kaepernick's journey, particularly focusing on his protests against racial injustice which became a national discourse in 2016. Despite the combined efforts, the series faced setbacks and will remain unreleased.

Kaepernick, who last played in the NFL in 2016, sparked controversy for kneeling during the national anthem in protest of systemic racism. His actions received widespread attention, including criticisms from former President Donald Trump, and are believed to have contributed to his lack of opportunity in professional football thereafter.
