Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Rakesh Sharma has been named the recipient of the lifetime achievement award at the 17th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK), scheduled from August 22 to 27.

This prestigious award, which includes a Rs 2 lakh cash prize, citation, and statuette, will be presented by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the event's organizing body, to honor Sharma's transformational contributions to the Indian documentary sector and his unwavering commitment to social justice issues.

Best known for his 2004 documentary "Final Solution," which examines the 2002 Gujarat riots and the rise of Hindutva politics, Sharma has previously been honored with multiple national and international accolades. His documentaries have been featured at over 120 global festivals, with a curated selection set to be screened at IDSFFK. The festival's previous lifetime achievement recipients include esteemed filmmakers like Anand Patwardhan and the Bedi brothers.
