In a bid to pave the way for a highway expansion, a sacred peepal tree in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, was relocated by district authorities. The tree, revered for its religious significance, was moved from Brahmpukhar to Jabbal, ensuring both cultural respect and development go hand in hand.
The relocation became necessary as the peepal tree stood in the path of the upcoming Shimla-Mataur four-lane project. Given the religious beliefs associated with the tree, it could not be uprooted or destroyed. Hence, the decision to carefully transplant it was taken, demonstrating a commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
Using technical aid from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and forest department supervision, special care was employed to protect the tree's roots and trunk. This action illustrates the administration's focus on environmental preservation alongside infrastructure development, as confirmed by Bilaspur Sadar SDM Rajdeep Singh.
