Zubeen Garg, celebrated Assamese singer known for Bollywood hit 'Ya Ali', tragically died at 52 in Singapore on Friday. The artist was in the city-state for the North East Festival, where he was to perform, but succumbed to breathing issues while scuba diving before the event.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mourned the loss, lauding Garg's unparalleled voice that resonated with the masses. 'Assam lost one of its favourite sons today,' he remarked, highlighting the void left in the cultural realm by Garg's untimely demise.
Coordination efforts are underway, led by Sarma and India's High Commissioner to Singapore, Shilpak N Ambule, to repatriate Garg's remains. The Northeast India Festival confirmed Garg's death at Singapore General Hospital after CPR efforts failed. He is survived by his wife, Garima Saikia Garg.
