On Saturday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed he would personally receive the body of renowned singer Zubeen Garg in Delhi. Garg's remains will arrive in Guwahati on a special flight arranged to ensure dignified public mourning for the artist.
Once in Guwahati, Garg's body will be taken to his residence, allowing his family, including his ailing father, a private moment. Later, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects at Sarusajai Sports Stadium, where arrangements have been carefully reviewed to manage the expected influx of mourners.
While several organizations have requested the last rites be held in Jorhat, the decision lies primarily with Garg's family. Chief Minister Sarma has instructed his cabinet to engage with cultural stakeholders before finalizing plans. Security and public accessibility remain paramount as Assam prepares to pay tribute to its beloved artist.
