Unity in Diversity: Banu Mushtaq Inaugurates Mysuru Dasara

International Booker Prize-winning author Banu Mushtaq inaugurated the famed Mysuru Dasara festival on Monday, marking a celebration of Karnataka's collective culture. She highlighted that the festival represents not only the softness and maternal affection of womanhood but also its formidable strength against injustice.

The 11-day Dasara festivities began with religious and traditional fervor in Mysuru, known as the city of palaces. Mushtaq's inauguration faced controversy, with objections arising over her invitation by the government. However, the inaugural event took place with prayers and rituals honoring Goddess Chamundeshwari.

In her address, Mushtaq stressed the importance of cultural roots, harmony, and unity in building a new society, emphasizing human values and equal opportunities. She expressed pride in the inclusive nature of the festival, calling for respect for democracy and advocating for love and unity in a world facing conflict and division.
