On Wednesday, prominent Kashmiri preacher Mirwaiz Umar Farooq marked the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, expressing heartfelt solidarity with the grieving families. In a statement on X, he highlighted the deep sorrow experienced by those affected and the enduring pain of the tragedy.
The Mirwaiz noted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have long endured similar tragedies, referencing horrific events from the past three decades, such as those at Gaw Kadal, Zakoora, and Sopore. He spoke of the thousands of lives lost to the ongoing conflict.
Despite the harrowing past, Mirwaiz reiterated the unwavering faith of Jammu and Kashmir's people in non-violence and aspirations for lasting peace through dialogue. The Pahalgam attack, undertaken by the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, had spurred India to launch Operation Sindoor as a military response.
