The staff association of Delhi University's Dyal Singh Evening College staged protests on Thursday concerning the proposed renaming of the institution. This action comes as the anticipation grows that the matter might soon be discussed in an upcoming Executive Council meeting.

Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh's announcement in December 2025 to rename the college after Sikh warrior Banda Singh Bahadur stirred objections among faculty members. Despite calls for a deliberative meeting, the college administration has refrained from acknowledging the protestors' demands.

Efforts to rename the college have faced resistance before; a 2017 attempt also met with controversy and legal challenges. Critics, including former principal Ramjilal, argue this undermines Dyal Singh Majithia's legacy and suggest naming new institutions instead.
