In Maharashtra's Wardha district, authorities have charged two individuals with allegedly beheading a goat in a public animal sacrifice ritual. The incident, recorded on video, prompted PETA India and a local activist to report the occurrence, leading to legal action on April 25.
The Talegaon police registered a first information report under section 325 of the BNS and provisions of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against Babansingh Santoshsingh Bawri and Jonusingh Gotansingh Bawri. These charges have sparked discussions about animal rights and societal violence.
"Animal sacrifice is both cruelty to animals and a danger to society. It desensitises us to violence and reinforces obsolete beliefs that hinder progress," commented Saloni Sakaria, PETA India Associate Manager of Cruelty Response.
