In a landmark political shift, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee expressed hope for West Bengal's progress following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in the 2026 assembly elections. Speaking to the media, Chatterjee emphasized the state's abundant talent and his aspirations for the next generation's growth and development under the new government.

On Tuesday, Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as West Bengal's first BJP Chief Minister, marking the end of a 15-year reign by the Trinamool Congress. This political transition was celebrated with a grand oath-taking ceremony attended by top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The BJP's historic win, capturing 207 seats, was bolstered by Adhikari's personal victories in the Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lost in Bhabanipur by a margin of over 15,000 votes. The election witnessed record voter turnout, with participation exceeding 92% in the initial phases—one of the highest in state history, according to the Election Commission.
