Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's latest film, 'The Rip', has ignited controversy as it becomes the centerpiece of a defamation lawsuit filed by two Miami-Dade police officers, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. The legal action targets Artists Equity, the actors' production company, over alleged misrepresentation in the Netflix film.

The officers involved, Jonathan Santana and Jason Smith, claim the movie took liberties with their real-life 2016 drug investigation, painting them in an unfavorable light as 'dirty cops'. The lawsuit, submitted on May 7, argues that the film has had detrimental effects on their reputations and personal lives. As chief detective, Santana was directly connected to the case, which involved uncovering millions hidden by a cartel.

Santana, in a local news interview, stated that the film inaccurately depicted events and led to speculation about impropriety, with colleagues jokingly questioning him about 'buckets of money'. The lawsuit also highlights that the officers were not consulted, while another police captain was involved as a technical advisor. Despite a disclaimer indicating fictional elements, Artists Equity has defended the film, insisting it does not depict true events or individuals.
