Acclaimed filmmaker Anik Dutta passed away on Wednesday following a tragic fall from his apartment's terrace in South Kolkata, police confirmed.
Rushed immediately to a nearby hospital in Dhakuria, medical professionals declared Dutta dead on arrival. Authorities initiated an investigation, although the family has yet to comment publicly.
Members of Kolkata's film fraternity, including actors and directors, gathered at the hospital, expressing grief over the sudden loss. Dutta gained prominence with 'Bhooter Bhabishyat' in 2012, a film celebrated for its satirical take on politics and society within a horror setting.
He followed up with the similarly themed 'Ascharya Pradip' and directed other respected works like 'Aparajito', 'Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo', and 'Borunbabur Bondhu'. His contributions are considered significant to Bengali cinema.
