A groundbreaking robot-assisted splenorenal bypass surgery was recently performed at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi, marking a first for India. The operation involved connecting the splenic artery to the renal artery, thereby circumventing a blockade and restoring circulation to the kidney.
The surgical team, led by Anant Kumar, addressed a complex case involving severe narrowing of the renal artery and uncontrolled hypertension in a 67-year-old woman from Lucknow with a single functioning kidney. The robotic approach facilitated enhanced precision in vessel reconstruction through minimally invasive means.
The patient, who had previously lost her right kidney, showed significant recovery post-surgery with stabilized blood pressure. Post-operative scans confirmed improved blood flow. This case underscores the role of robotics in advancing urological procedures.
