Maharashtra's leadership, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, secured a favorable response from the central government regarding additional funding for the state's water initiatives during a key review meeting in Delhi. The meeting, attended by state and central officials, discussed the progress and needs under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The review covered around 51,000 ongoing water projects, highlighting the state's complete compliance with required standards and its push for further financial aid. Chief Minister Fadnavis mentioned that discussions also addressed implementation challenges, with a positive outlook on resolving such issues. The central government emphasized prioritizing intra-state over inter-state river-linking projects due to consensus challenges and offered assurances once the Central Water Commission provides necessary clearances.
Water conservation was another focal point, as the state aligns Jalyukt Shivar efforts with the Centre's Jaltara scheme. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted an agreement with a spiritual organization to expand water retention structures across drought-prone regions, aiming to enhance groundwater levels and water infiltration.
