Jharkhand Introduces Cash Rewards to Curb Illegal Narcotics Trade

The Jharkhand cabinet has sanctioned a reward scheme for government employees and informers targeting illegal narcotics activities. Additionally, the state increased the dearness allowance and relief for employees and pensioners, launched a pension scheme for artists, and approved an organic farming certification plan.

The government of Jharkhand has initiated a new reward system aimed at curbing the illegal trade and peddling of narcotics. State officials announced that both government employees and informers who help in apprehending those involved in such activities could receive cash incentives ranging from Rs 3,000 to over Rs 2 lakh, based on different criteria such as the type and amount of substance seized.

Vandana Dadel, additional chief secretary of the cabinet secretariat and vigilance department, stated, "The approved policy aims to motivate individuals to share information that could aid in effective actions against narcotics offenses under the NDPS Act of 1985." Additionally, during the meeting led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the cabinet approved increases in dearness allowance and relief for state employees and pensioners by 2 percentage points. Furthermore, a monthly pension scheme for artists, a new MoU with the India Meteorological Department for Dumka airport, and a phased organic farming certification scheme were sanctioned.
