Suman Kalyanpur, the voice behind iconic tracks of the 60s and 70s, passed away at 89. Surrounded by age-related challenges, she peacefully departed on Sunday at her residence in Lokhandwala. Mangala Khadilkar, her biographer, shared that Kalyanpur spent her last days revisiting her own musical legacy.

Kalyanpur captured hearts with her melodious tunes, such as 'Aajkal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche' and 'Tumne Pukara Aur Hum Chale Aaye', leaving an indelible mark in the Indian music industry. Singing in multiple languages, she carved her niche while often being compared to Lata Mangeshkar, whom she admired dearly.

Her contributions spanned various genres, including ghazals and devotional music. Despite comparisons, Kalyanpur maintained a humble perspective, cherishing her friendship with Mangeshkar. Her legacy continues through her daughter, Charu, as admirers mourn the loss of her timeless voice. Final rites are scheduled for Monday at the Pawan Hans crematorium.
