South Korea's Nuclear Deal Faces Temporary Hurdle in Czech Republic

South Korean officials on Wednesday played down the Czech court's decision to halt an $18 billion project involving South Korea building two nuclear reactors, noting it as just a temporary hurdle. They expressed optimism about the deal's eventual progression.
The South Korean consortium, led by Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, was set to finalize the contract with CEZ, the Czech Republic's leading electricity supplier. However, judicial intervention came after French company EDF lodged a complaint following their failed bid against the South Koreans.
Industry Minister Ahn Dukgeun affirmed the delay was merely administrative, while CEZ intends to appeal. The Czech court's pause contrasts with government intentions, unaware of any substantial issues in the bidding process, according to Ahn.
