CBI Director Praveen Sood's Tenure Extended by One Year

The Indian government has extended the tenure of CBI Director Praveen Sood by an additional year, following a recommendation by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Sood, who took over the role in May 2023, has a distinguished career in law enforcement and numerous accolades to his name.

In a recent development, the Government of India has announced the extension of the tenure of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood by one year. Sood, who assumed the position in May 2023, was initially set for a two-year term. This extension follows the endorsement of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which acted on the selection committee's recommendations.

The announcement confirms that Sood will continue in his capacity as CBI Director beyond May 24, 2025. The government notice stated, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, based on the recommendations of the Committee, has approved the extension in tenure of Shri Praveen Sood, IPS (KN:1986) as Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of one year beyond 24.05.2025."

Praveen Sood, an IPS officer from the 1986 Batch of the Karnataka Cadre, has an impressive academic background with a B. Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi and postgraduate qualifications in public policy. Sood has been recognized for his contributions to law enforcement with awards including the President's Police Medal and the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
