India Intensifies National Emergency Preparedness with Mock Drills Amid Tensions

In a strategic move to bolster its emergency response framework, India launched comprehensive mock drills across seven locations in Dehradun, as instructed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Sites like Dhara Chowki and Blind School Rajpur Road were among selected areas undergoing rigorous evaluations to enhance India's preparedness against potential threats.

Inspector Chandrabhan Singh highlighted the significance of these exercises, remarking, "A mock drill is being conducted everywhere as per the orders by higher authorities. We conducted a drill with the civil defence, aiming to raise public awareness on self-protection during air strikes or attacks." As tensions with Pakistan rise, a nationwide initiative on civil defence is underway.

The MHA's directive comes after an alarming terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities. These drills, spanning major cities from Delhi to Jaipur, emphasize refining local response strategies to complex security threats. Additionally, the Indian Armed Forces' 'Operation Sindoor' targeted terrorist infrastructure, reinforcing national security measures.

During nationwide rehearsals, procedures such as blackout simulations and evacuations formed key components, with public training sessions enhancing civilian safety protocols. The government's response, including international consultations by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, reflects India's proactive stance in safeguarding its citizens amid heightened security concerns.
