In a notable decision on Thursday, the Supreme Court permitted Ashish Mishra, the son of erstwhile Union Minister Ajay Mishra, to travel to Lakhimpur Kheri on weekends to visit his family.

Accused of a grievous act of violence involving farmers, Mishra is currently out on interim bail, following an earlier incident where his vehicle allegedly ran over protestors, culminating in eight tragic fatalities.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, emphasized that Mishra must limit his visitations to family interactions and abstain from engaging in public events, thereby steering clear of any potential influence on the trial.

The court session illuminated ongoing proceedings where the State of Uttar Pradesh's counsel confirmed that 16 out of 208 witnesses had been examined, with potential for further streamlining by omitting non-essential witnesses to expedite the process.

Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave, representing Mishra, suggested possible future relaxations in bail conditions, contingent upon Mishra's compliance. The Supreme Court will review these potential adjustments post the summer recess.
