Early Thursday, the Border Security Force (BSF) neutralized a Pakistani intruder attempting to cross into Punjab's Ferozpur sector, according to sources. The unidentified individual was shot on the intervening night of May 7-8 while trying to traverse the International Border under cover of darkness, despite warnings.
The BSF personnel were on high alert throughout the operation. When morning arrived, the intruder's body was recovered and handed over to local police for further investigation. Authorities have refrained from disclosing the identity of the deceased pending further inquiry.
In a related development, thirteen civilians died and 59 were injured in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district amid heightened tensions from ceasefire violations by Pakistan, following Indian strikes on terror camps on May 7. The retaliatory shelling by Pakistan targeted various border areas, causing infrastructure damages and panic among residents.
Since April 25-26, Pakistan has engaged in unprovoked ceasefire violations. After India's Operation Sindoor, Pakistani forces targeted civilian zones across Jammu and Kashmir, causing property damage and public fear. The Indian Army continues to closely monitor the situation, responding proportionately to maintain stability along the Line of Control (LoC).
