In a significant development in the National Herald case, the Rouse Avenue Court has confirmed that chargesheet notices have been duly served to all accused, notably Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. However, a notice for Sam Pitroda was sent only recently via an alternative email, prompting the court to schedule further arguments on the issue of cognisance for May 21 and 22, 2025.

During the proceedings, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju sought directives for all respondents to submit replies. This proposal faced opposition from Pramod Dubey, representing one of the accused firms, Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd. Special Judge Vishal Gogne refrained from mandating immediate responses from accused parties, noting their right to examine extensive case documentation.

The Enforcement Directorate's case, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), implicates Sonia and Rahul Gandhi along with others, asserting transparency by allowing the accused a chance to present their stance before cognizance proceedings. The predicate offenses under Indian Penal Code are tried alongside money laundering charges at Rouse Avenue Courts.
