The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued an advisory to online content publishers, OTT platforms, and media streaming services regarding hosting content with origins in Pakistan. The advisory stresses adherence to the 'Code of Ethics' as outlined in the Information Technology Rules of 2021, which require publishers to exercise caution with content that could impact India's sovereignty, integrity, and security.

Publishers are urged to avoid hosting content that could harm India's friendly international relations or incite violence and disrupt public order. The advisory also emphasizes the role of intermediaries in ensuring users do not share content threatening national unity and security. This measure follows the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, associated with Pakistan-based actors, which led to multiple fatalities, including Indian and Nepali nationals.

OTT platforms are advised to discontinue any streaming content linked to Pakistan, including web series, films, and songs, irrespective of the distribution model. This action aligns with heightened concerns about national security following the involvement of international actors in regional conflicts. Parliament's Standing Committee on Information Technology has also highlighted the adverse role of social media influencers potentially inciting violence against national interests and seeks actions under the IT Act 2000.
