Under the ambitious leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has set another milestone in wheat procurement. An official release indicates that as of May 8, more than 926,000 metric tons of wheat have been sourced from over 173,000 farmers, a significant increase from last year's 688,000 metric tons.
This procurement success comes as 446,725 farmers have registered for the Rabi marketing year 2025-26. In a move to ensure fair compensation, more than Rs 2,045 crore has been directly transferred into farmers' bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is pegged at Rs 2,425 per quintal, providing timely financial support as procurement continues through 5,852 centers until June 15.
On a national scale, major wheat-producing states report a smooth procurement process for the Rabi season 2025-26. With 256.31 lakh tonnes procured for the central pool, the country is on course to surpass last year's figures by a substantial margin, supported by state-specific action plans and swift MSP payments. Efforts by the Department of Food and Public Distribution include monitoring stockholding limits and conducting field visits to ensure seamless operations.
