The Maharashtra Social Justice Department is undertaking a comprehensive review of its welfare schemes and scholarships to better serve beneficiaries, a senior official announced on Thursday.

Current schemes, like the Rs 150 pre-matric scholarship for Scheduled Caste students, are considered inadequate, prompting a reassessment to ensure relevance and improved financial aid. Beyond scholarships, schemes related to cooperative industrial units, entrepreneurship, and development corporations are also under review.

With the budget rising from Rs 15,893 crore to Rs 22,658 crore for 2025-26, the department can now support more beneficiaries. A significant portion of the budget boost, Rs 3,960 crore, is allocated to the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana', to aid Scheduled Caste women via the Women and Child Development Department.
