In the midst of a heated water-sharing conflict between Haryana and Punjab, supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party and Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains allegedly detained Bhakra Beas Management Board Chairman Manoj Tripathi at a guest house, raising the stakes in an already contentious dispute.
Addressing the media, Minister Bains justified the detention as a response to what he termed unauthorized water distribution to Haryana, questioning the need for an emergency visit by the BBMB chairman. He claimed that Punjab was already providing sufficient water to Haryana and demanded official action against the chairman for his unsanctioned morning visit to Bhakra Nangal Dam.
As tensions flared, Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condemned the BBMB's actions, further accusing the BJP of making anti-Punjab decisions amidst a national crisis. Meanwhile, law enforcement warned protesters against taking matters into their own hands, as the dispute over essential water resources continued to unfold.
