The Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam, located on the Chenab River in Ramban, has opened two of its gates following heavy downpours in Jammu and Kashmir, raising flood warnings. Authorities have responded to the situation as water levels continue to surge, increasing the risk of inundation in local areas.
Traffic on the crucial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains halted due to a landslide in Chamba, as confirmed by Deputy Traffic Inspector Javed Kataria. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the road, which is expected to resume normal operations within a few hours.
In response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, India has decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty in a move supported by local residents. This action, intended as a countermeasure to Pakistan's alleged support for terrorism, underscores the escalating tension between the two nations.
