Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited security forces in Uri on Friday to evaluate the security scenario amid rising tensions with Pakistan. After reviewing the situation, he reassured the public that the local administration is committed to preventing inconvenience due to the escalating conflict with Pakistan.
Addressing the media, Sinha affirmed, "Attempts were made by Pakistan, but the Indian armed forces are prepared for any situation. Our priority is ensuring that the J&K populace does not face hardships. I have visited border villages that have incurred losses." Sinha also emphasized the administration's efforts to provide financial aid, or ex-gratia, to those affected.
Sinha further noted that the families of those injured or deceased have received compensation. He acknowledged the need for new bunkers and revealed plans for their construction in coming days. This development follows Pakistan's coordinated drone and missile strikes along the western border, targeting Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, which were largely thwarted by India's air defense systems, including the S-400 missile defense.
In Poonch, local residents expressed gratitude to the Indian armed forces for their protective measures after shelling damaged a house. A resident criticized Pakistan's actions, stating, "What Pakistan does is incomprehensible. Thanks to our Armed Forces, we can sleep at night." Additionally, a Hanuman Temple was damaged, sparking criticism from a local who condemned Pakistan's targeting of religious sites.
The strikes are believed to be a response to India's Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan after an attack in Kashmir that killed 26 tourists. The volatile situation has led to calls for diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
